Can SMC BMC Molded Components Be Glued? What Glue To Use?
Dec 12, 2018

FRP material is short for Fiber Reinforced Plastics, SMC, BMC are two types of FRP materials. FRP composite material is a high-performance material formed by mixing fiber materials and matrix materials in a certain ratio and extruded and drawn by special molds. Because of the different types of resins used, there are polyester resin with glass reinforced plastics and epoxy resin with glass reinforced plastics. It is light and hard, non-conductive, high in mechanical strength, and resistant to corrosion.

So what glue is used for FRP components? It is recommended to use a two-component epoxy glue. It has high transparency and forms clear and transparent finish after curing. The adhesive is perfect after curing. No heating is needed to cure. It is environmentally friendly and non-toxic, with high bonding strength, good toughness, oil resistance, water resistance, acid and alkali resistance, moisture resistance, dustproof performance, etc. Cured materials have good electrical and physical properties such as good insulation, compression resistance and low shrinkage.

The two component epoxy glue can also be used for bonding glass, electronic components, leather, plastics, rubber, fiber, stone, metal, wood, other materials, cement products, ceramics, medicine, paper. Two component epoxy glue is widely used in hand-lay-up composite components and pultruded composite materials, such as surfboards, skateboards, windsurfing boards, yachts, fiber rods, fiber tubes, fiber profiles, carbon fiber products, fishing rods, Golf clubs, and sports equipment, etc.

Using two component epoxy glue, SMC, BMC molded parts can be perfectly bonded to an integrated one piece component with all advantages mentioned above.
